We may be iti but we've got mad mana

Our Junior Kapa Haka group has been learning the waiata a ringa (action song) 'Nau Mai Haere Mai' from the show Kia Mau! on the Māori Television website. We get together every Thursday lunchtime. We may be iti (small), but boy do we have some mana in this group. For anyone in the group who would like to practise at home or share this with their whānau check out the video for this Waiata by clicking on the link below.

You don't have to be a part of the group to check out the video. If you are visiting our blog and not a member of our group why not check it out anyway and tell us how you get on by commenting below.

We are in now in Week 8 of Kapa Haka @stfrancischch and we are starting to really come together as a group.

Here are a couple of videos of us practising one of our waiata for this year. In the next couple of weeks we will add links to lyrics for our waiata and haka, and some poi tutorial videos for those that would like to do some extra practise between sessions. Look out for these down the right hand side amongst the other gadgets. In the mean time be sure to check out our videos and we will catch you again soon.

Kapa Haka is Back

Nau mai, haere mai,

Kapa Haka 2017 is here, we are 5 weeks in, one performance down and busy learning all our new songs for the year. If you are a student of St Francis of Assisi School and are thinking about joining, come and see what we are all about, we would love to have you. Parents are also always welcome.

Year 4-8 students meet Thursday mornings at 8.00am in the school library
Year 1-3 students meet Thursday lunchtimes from 12.40pm-1.20pm

In August we will be performing at the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival, this is something that was a real highlight for us last year and something we are looking forward to again this year.

The theme for the Cultural Festival this year is 'Okea ururoatia' - Fight like a shark. Be tenacious in your pursuit of your goals, never give up. We can't wait to put together a performance that reflects this, we have already started planning.. But at this stage it's all top secret, so you'll have to check back soon to see what we are up to, as we get ready for this performance.
